Length of the BNO Visa
Applicants can choose to apply for permission to stay in the UK for either:
- 2 years and 6 months, or
- 5 years
Those granted the shorter visa can apply to extend their stay in the UK.
During their stay, BNO visa holders are able to live, work and study in the United Kingdom without restriction.
Settlement After the BNO Visa
After living in the UK for five years under the BNO visa route, applicants may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
To qualify for settlement, applicants must usually demonstrate that they:
- Have completed five years of continuous residence in the UK
- Meet the English language requirement
- Have passed the Life in the UK Test
After obtaining Indefinite Leave to Remain, individuals may later apply for naturalisation as a British citizen.
