Our Charges
We normally charge on one of the following bases:-
Fixed fees. We can often quote a fixed fee for many types of work that we undertake, from conveyancing to immigration applications and appeals. These fees will generally be based on the amount of time we expect the work to take, the seniority of the solicitors handling the case and any unusual features. Our fees are always competitive.
“No win no fee”. We can generally act on a “no win no fee” basis in most personal injury and financial mis-selling claims and, subject to assessment of the case, in some types of civil and commercial litigation. In addition we can also enter into a “no win reduced fee” arrangement whereby you only pay our full fee if you win the case but a lower fee if you should lose. Before we can enter into such an arrangement we will need to ensure that there are no other means for you to fund your claim e.g. trade union membership, legal expense insurance (see below) etc. If you would like us to consider taking your claim on a “no won no fee” basis please contact us for an informal discussion.
Legal expense insurance. Most household and motor insurance policies will include legal expense insurance (”LEI”). These policies cover your legal costs in certain types of legal claim that you may bring. However, the insurer usually insists that you instruct one of its panel solicitors. Very often these panel solicitors will have to BUY your case from the insurer for anything up to £800.00. In a road traffic accident case, a solicitor can usually expect to recover around £1,200.00 in legal costs. However, after paying for the case, the panel solicitor will be left with a budget of only £400.00 to fight your claim. Therefore, it will generally attempt to settle your claim as quickly as possible and very often for much less than the claim is actually worth. Therefore, where LEI is available, it might not always guarantee the best outcome in your claim unless the insurer is prepared to allow us to act for you. We will not pay for your claim which means that the total budget is allocated to ensuring the very best outcome for your claim.
Hourly rates. If your case does not fit into any of the above categories, we can usually act in return for an agreed hourly rate. Our rates are extremely competitive and substantially less than most city centre firms reflecting our lower overheads. Our hourly rates can range from £75.00 to £250.00 per hour depending on the seniority of the solicitor handling the case. We will always provide you with an initial estimate of the total likely fee based on the information available at the time. We will continue to provide you with regular updates and, if necessary, a revision in our costs estimates together with a full explanation for this.
